This series consists of correspondence with the Commissioner of Indian Affairs. The records include letters, circulars, and telegrams containing communications between the Superintendent, or one of his employees, and the Commissioner of Indian Affairs. The records also include forms, lists of inventories and checks, and photographs. The records provide information about the administration of Vermilion Lake Indian School. Subjects include employees; civil service appointments and employee transfers; and positions and wages. Other topics include teachers and students; the enrollment of students; authorities to expend funds; cash and property accounts; the purchase of Liberty Bonds; bids and purchases; equipment and supplies; building improvements; and telephone rights of way. The records also include information about the 1918 influenza epidemic and other health problems among students and members of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa living near the school; and voluntary military service of Indians during World War I.
